Ask Biki- 5 Ways to Look Expensive on a Budget
Hey Y’all, hope you had a good weekend. What did you get up to? Mine was super chilled as I’m planning for my first trip out of Berlin in months, I can’t wait! Now back to the subject at hand, I’m going through major experimental mode with my social media channels and y’all will see what I mean as we go along. One of those changes on my blog will be how I categorize my posts, I’ve decided to move the posts where I give style/fashion tips/advice from my Personal Style to my ‘Ask Biki’ section because these posts will be more than showing off (what I hope are) fly looks. I want my My ‘Ask Biki’ style/fashion posts to act as your free personal style consultancy service. So now, where were we? Oh yes, Continue Reading to learn 5 ways to look expensive on a budget.
5 Ways to Look Expensive on a Budget
1.Colour Code– Colour plays a major part in determining where we fall on the chic–0-meter. With the right cut and fit, you will always look up market in monochrome black and white. With this in mind, before you head out to the stores, have a rummage in your wardrobe to see what black and white separates you have. I decided to boost my black and white ensemble by adding red accessories into the mix.
2. Classic Staples– Invest in statement separates which you can get at a reasonable price. For example, many high street stores like Zara, Topshop and the like offer affordable tailored black blazers. These are timeless pieces you need in your wardrobe as they take your outfit up a notch. Other cost effective classic staples which can be sourced from the high street include- leather or faux leather bags, tailored trousers etc.
3.Strategic Accessories– One of the reasons, I am cuckoo about accessories, is that they are such a cost-effective way to look expensive on the cheap. With my #OOTD, my Art-Deco inspired earrings and belt, take the casual look out of my look. And they didn’t break the bank, take my earrings for example, they were about 8 Euros (Aaah, I can’t remember the exact price, but they were definitely below a tenner!) Rings are always a good way to go for that Rich Bitch look and I Am’s assorted gold rings always hook me the F up.
4.Hair and Makeup– You can be dressed head to toe in designer clothing and still look about the total cost of a Big Mac- Fact. Quite a few components go into looking expensive and hair and makeup play a big role in that. In these pics, I like to believe that my MAC Lipglass- Desire- shows rouge lippy helps to polish of a look.
5.Go Vintage– I served the best tip for last. The polka dots dress I’m wearing is from a vintage store in Berlin called, Made in Berlin. This dress was 40-something Euros ( I don’t remember the price, oops…) However due to the style, (e.g. the tiered layers) it looks like it costs a lot more and that is what I love about certain vintage dresses. The belt is also vintage as well. I already wrote a post giving you key vintage shopping tips, so with that knowledge in mind, go forth to thine local vintage store or browse some online vintage boutique and shop!
