3 Reasons Why You Should Tell Your Readers Goodbye When Closing Your Blog

I couldn’t help but notice that a few of my favourite bloggers have stopped blogging. How did I find out? Well after week after week of checking in and seeing no updated posts, I kinda got the hint. How did I feel? Well you know those great first dates you think you had and then the guy never calls? Something similar to that. Continue Reading to learn why you should tell your readers goodbye when you decide to close your blog.

In my opinion, I think if you’ve blogged for at least a year continuously and decide to quit the blogosphere you owe-yes- you owe it to your readers to say Goodbye.

Now don’t get me wrong here, you don’t owe your readers a full explanation if it’s for personal reasons you’d rather not share, however a short paragraph saying you are outeeeee and most importantly, thanking your readers for coming with you on your journey thus far- well dhaaarling- it’s just the polite thing to do and it’s how to ensure your online identity is not tarnished.

If you’re still not convinced let me go into a bit more detail-

3 Reasons Why You Should Tell Your Readers Goodbye When Closing Your Blog

  1. I’ll start by saying that everything I’ve said above applies to bloggers who blogged just for fun, i.e. as a hobby as opposed to a way to earn money, become a digital influencer, promote creative work and so on. For me this is immaterial if between 6 – 12 months you racked up a few readers along the way. Even if you didn’t blog seriously, in my opinion it works in your favour if you show your loyal readers respect by thanking them for their Likes, Comments, etc. Also on a personal note, officially saying goodbye may give you a sense of closure allowing you to move on more gracefully to your next chapter.
  2. If you’ve decided that blogging is not for you but you still want to lead a social media trail by focusing on another platform, you should definitely say goodbye to your readers, as this will give them more of a reason to continue to follow you on your other digital platforms.
  3. Saying goodbye officially  shows you give a shit. In my digital experience thus far, I find that the social media world is very much quid pro quo. Of course those rules don’t apply if you are Gigi Hadid, personalities like her don’t need to do a goddamn thing for their fans to accumulate. However if you are a mere mortal, you need to put in the work to advance your online profile. That means you need to show your readers and fans you care even if you are about to jump ship, because expressing your thanks and showing gratitude will give them more of an inclination to support you in your future social media or business plans.

What do you guys think about this topic? Have you ever been ‘dumped’ by a blog/blogger you loved, how did you feel?
