Shirt Dress – 2 Ways to Wear a Shirt Dress
One of the great things about a shirt dress is that it’s an outfit that keeps on giving. Essentially what I mean is, due to the many ways one can wear a shirt dress, depending on the way you rock it each time, your shirt dress can look like an entirely new outfit. Don’t believe me? Continue Reading to see my 2 budget-friendly ways to wear a shirt dress.
One Way- Shirt Dress + Trousers
Pairing a midi length shirt dress with a pair of trousers is a great way to get comfort and style all in one ensemble and who doesn’t want that? To avoid the ‘Potato Sack’ look cinch in your waist with a skinny belt and be mindful of your proportions. Also note that the more slim fitting your trousers look, the leaner you’ll appear.
There are many tricks to achieve a more streamlined look when you wear a shirt dress- having the dress partly open via a slit or unbuttoning some of the buttons (as shown in my images) helps. Also be sure to harmonise the colour palette of your trousers and shirt dress.
Second Way- Shirt Dress + Tights
This is actually my preferred way of wearing a shirt dress. I find it makes me look more elongated and I feel much more comfortable.
I wanted to have a more layered look with this outfit, so I paired my shirt dress with a tribal print cardigan and wearing tights helped balance out my silhouette, as did my platform heels!
I would also advise that women who are below average height should opt for wearing tights or leggings as opposed to wearing trousers, as over the knee tops can overwhelm many frames.
I decided to snatch my waist with a skinny belt to make my outfit look less frumpy and bulky. What do you think?
I just adore this cartoon bag from Zara, it always puts a smile on my face. If you remember I wore it with my Thriller red leather jacket and pleather skirt some moons ago.
There is a lot going on with my second look, and that’s exactly how I like it. I love throwing lots of pieces together and finding a way to make the look work or rather wErk!
