The days are getting longer and the chilly evening winds are showing signs of letting up – you know what that means? It’s time to get fit for spring. What started out as a fun way to exercise in Port Harcourt (Nigeria) has led to me teaching my very own Naija Dance Fitness Class in Berlin. If you are looking for a fun dance workout that lets you get fit, whilst building your stamina and revelling in #GirlPower, continue reading…
Dance! Dance! Dance!
If you read my blog regularly, you will remember that in August last year, I had planned to teach a Naija Dance Fitness Class in Berlin. I was so excited about this and did a post which had videos of me explaining my inspiration to bring this kind of dance workout to Berlin. In the article, I had also mentioned the knee pain I have been suffering for years now, how that halted one of the things I love to do most in the world- dance-and how attending Naija Dance Fitness Classes in Port Harcourt (Nigeria) ended up being a life-changing experience for me. Reason being, I realised I could actually keep up with this kind of dance fitness.
In actual fact, a few days before my intended class I had a knee injury, so instead of teaching a class, I did a dance workout teaser video.
After that, I put teaching my dance classes to rest until December when I attended a friend of a friend’s 30th birthday party. As I went over to introduce myself to the celebrant, she immediately told me that she loved my dance workout videos and that meant the world to me. It also gave me the much needed push I needed to teach more dance fitness classes in 2017.
Fast forward to earlier on this year when I was looking for a dance studio to host my dance workout class and I was approached by a top dance school in Berlin called Motion*s. The owner of the school told me she had watched the video of me explaining my knee injury, why I wanted to bring this kind of dance workout to Berlin and believed it would be a great addition to their dance schedule. So many emotions went through me a the time- shock, fear, disbelief, happiness, pride…
And here we are!
I started of by doing a dance workout class in February which was so challenging and just what my body needed.
What is a Naija Dance Fitness Class?
Naija Dance Fitness is a fusion of Nigerian/African dance steps and cardio routines. The combination creates a fun and energetic fat-burning workout which is danced to authentic Nigerian/African music.
Enjoy Fitness, Naija Style!
