Autumn Winter 2017 Top Fashion Trends
The fashion shows in the fashion capitals of the world- Paris, New York, London and Milan- are over. As can be expected, there are a plethora of looks to choose from.
Recently, Tobi.com were lovely enough to let me choose my favourite pieces from their platform. Having being inspired by the popular runway styles, the following looks are my Autumn Winter 2017 top fashion trends at the moment.
Trend 1 – Statement Faux Fur
Statement faux furs are a perennial favourite at this time of the year. Designers like Chloé, Gucci and Mary Katrantzou all had their furry moments on the Autumn Winter 2017 runway. I chose to style my black lace maxi dress with this bold cobalt blue jacket. As seen on Kate Moss time and time again, an oversized fur coat adds instant nonchalant glamour to your evening dress.
Accessories are one of the ways I like to keep up with the trends. It’s pretty hard to escape florals at the moment. Currently, these bloomn’ prints are emblazoned on dresses, jacket, boots, bags…I got this floral corset belt as a gift and it hits two Autumm Winter 2017 trends with one stone (so to speak) – the floral and waist-belt trend.
Whilst in summer, florals adopts a more romantic and whimsical vibe, in winter, this picturesque trend draws us in with its dark and dramatic side. One of the accessories I love to adorn in autumn are my floral crowns, I chose my purple one for this outfit.
Quick side note- how about this subtle but effective back plunge? Between that and the transparency details, I’m not sure which is my favourite detail of Tobi’s timeless dress. I believe it’s perfect dress to shimmy into the New Year with.
Trend 2 – Seeing Red
When it comes to Autumn Winter 2017 top fashion trends, they don’t get bigger than Red. Designers like Max Mara, Givenchy, Valentino and Alexander McQueen had their models stalking down the catwalk looking like fiery amazons. Tomato red, wine red, burgundy red- this season, you can experiment with these hues to your heart’s content. If you wish to stop traffic quite literally, you can wear the colour from head to toe.
Red is one of my favourite colours and I believe I proved that last autumn by pairing a fire engine red leather dress with red tights, this time around I chose to experiment with the bold hue by styling Tobi’s black jersey bralette and skirt with red accents.
I like to call this look ‘luxe grunge’, because Tobi’s slim fitting black skirt reminds me of the maxi tube skirts I wore as a kid in the 90s. But now this 90s girl is all grown up, so I threw in some glamour for good measure with my razzle dazzle accessories.
Fashion is one balancing act and I like to experiment with proportions so I styled my maxi tube skirt with an oversized check jumper. This jumper is one of my go-to chunky pieces and did you know that checks are one of the top Autumn Winter 2017 fashion trends? Oh yes, fashion is square-eyed this season. So I get to stay warm and on-trend: Happy Days!
My baggy jumper, beanie and chunky footwear were my ode to the 90s grunge era, tisgh…
Trend 3 – Rock n Roll 80s Vibes
I am a big fan of mashing up trends, I like to pick n mix just as I would in a sweet shop. Designers like Saint Laurent and Jil Sander showed us they meant business by accentuating their pieces with oversized shoulder pads. I don’t know about you but I love 80s-inspired fashion; it brings back great memories of Joan Collins setting the sairtorial bar high in Dynasty. I decided to style Tobi’s, motorbike graphic print dress (worn as a t-shirt) with this jacket as the two pieces compliment each other like white on rice.
No Autumn Winter fashion trends report would be complete without mentioning how designers inserted leather into their collections. Saint Laurent, Acne Studios, Alexander McQueen illustrated the many faces of leather- sexy, ladylike, business-minded… I went down the more 80s Prince, rock n roll route with my leather look.
If you follow my blog, you’ll know I fly the ‘lingerie worn as outerwear trend’ flag, so I love that this statement t-shirt has a sexy cutout that can show off my various harness bras.
Speaking of sexy leather, every chance it gets, fashion likes to get down and dirty with kink; now you can’t toss a tweed Chanel bag over your shoulder without knocking over a row of high-shine, vinyl-esque leather pieces. That’s alright by me, if it’s high-shine, I’m here for it and to put my money where my mouth is, I’m wearing patent lace up boots.
Which one of these Tobi looks gets your vote? Do tell, I’d love to know!
