Spring Jackets – Make The Trench Coat Your Ultimate Transition Piece

March can be a challenging time style-wise as we are caught smack-bang in the middle of winter and spring. Bundling up in chunky knits is no longer an option, but it’s not quite warm enough to reveal our bare shoulders and toes to the sun. This makes it the perfect time to trade your heavy winter jacket for a lighweight spring jacket like a trench coat. When it comes to spring jackets, this timeless outerwear piece is the perfect cover-up to stylishly carry you through the gradual transition from winter to spring. Continue Reading…

Spring Jackets

If you follow my blog, you’ll know I love oversized trench coats, in a previous article I gave you key tips on how to replace the belt for your trench coat and in another article I showed you how I modernise my vintage trench coat.

It’s impossible for me to pinpoint why I have a healthy obsession with maxi-length trench coats but I know when the match was lit and you can blame style icon, Audrey Hepburn for that. Whilst watching her play Holly Golightly in that final scene, even thought I was a child, I was struck by how effortlessly Parisian and classic she looked in her beige trench coat.

This is why when it comes to spring jackets- trench coats make great investment pieces. Whilst we  wait anxiously to see the backend of winter and the fickle weather shifts erratically from being rainy, windy to being mildly warm, we can rely on a trench coat to keep us looking chic and collected.

Another key characteristic about an oversized and double breasted trench coat which makes it such a functional go-to piece during this transitional season, is that one can layer up in lightweight knits underneath which is a much needed blessing.

In case you are wondering how to style a trench coat during in-between weather, here are my tips on how to shrug of your thick winter coat and step into spring with the mother of all spring jackets.

Key Tips On How To Update Your Trench Coat For Spring

Change your accessories

Spring accessories

Vibrant pom-pom hats, cosy blanket scarves, statement gloves…these were some of the ways we punctuated our outfits during winter. As spring settles in, it’s definitely time to swap these winter accessories for pieces that welcome the new lighter and brighter season.

That’s is why this Reece Zebrawood and emerald wood watch by JORD is my new BFF. Believe it or not, I haven’t worn a watch for over ten years, but as soon as I saw this lightweight wood watch, I knew the earthy brown and rich emerald green palette would compliment my oatmeal brown trench coat to perfection. I tend to lean towards the luxe as opposed to boho side of things, so I love the fact that the face of my watch has gold accents which allow me to compliment the watch with my metallic accessories.

JORD have many other different styles of women’s and men’s watches, so feast your eyes on them to see which style you’d want to covet as a transitional accessory for spring.

Experiment with colour

Spring conjures up thoughts of blossoming and awakening which is why we tend to look at nature for the first signs of spring.  Just as seeing buds bursting and early blooms lifts up our spirits, so does injecting some colour into our wardrobes to mark the start of a lighter and warmer season. When one thinks of spring colours, brown may not be the first hue that comes to mind, but it acts as a great foundation to build stronger colours upon. That’s why a brown oversized trench coat is my ultimate investment piece when it comes to spring jackets.

I wanted my overall look to be slightly retro, so I paired my spring jacket with a bejewelled maroon turban and vibrant 60s print scarf. How will you use colour to create your spring wardrobe?

Mix up textures

In this day and age, people are far more environmentally conscious and ethically responsible, that’s why JORD’s wood watches make a great eco-friendly alternative to predictable and chunky metal timepieces.

Furthermore, the dawn of spring calls for moving away from winter accessory textures like wool and mixing your accessories with wood accents. To add more depth to my look, I mixed my trademark look-at-me metallic accessories with my JORD wood watch.

As I’ve already said, I don’t wear watches, but for the right understated yet eye-catching design, I’ll break my rules! Like JORD I believe watches should ‘tell more than time’, I want my watch and other accessories to tell a story and give you some insight into my character.

Btw, what do you guys think of my snakeskin bag? I love how the different shades of brown compliment the multi-tone brown palette of my outfit. I also like to think my bag with its boho-like straps puts spring appeal into my outfit, as does my silk psychedelic scarf.
