Last Call For Summer’s Striking Lips- ARTDECO, ‘Paradise Island’, Ombre Lipstick Collection

Last Call For Summer! Can you believe summer is almost over? I certainly can’t but we must face the music and the inevitable drop in temperature. However, I’m a strong believer of ‘It ain’t over till it’s over’, and what better way to end your summer with a bang than going all out in look-at-me bold summer lipstick shades! This summer, I was very lucky to have ARTDECO gift me with a selection of ombre lipsticks from their fabulous ‘Paradise Island’ limited collection.

For your summer day look, let your lips pop

Coral lipstick for dark skin

This summer, my makeup routine during the day was at the barest minimum. I pretty much tidied and slicked my eyebrows using Benefit’s, Ready, Set, Brow, applied lipstick and was out the door. However, if I’m being honest, I’ve played it pretty safe with my lipstick colours through the years. I’ve always been hesitant of applying a neon-bright lip shade. This is why I was very excited to try on ARTDECO’s, Trouble in Paradise.

ARTDECO describes their summer lipstick as a ‘three-toned lipstick with an ombre-WOW- effect’ that gives’ high-coverage’ and an ‘intense finish in one stroke’.  I’d have to agree with the latter, with this coral hue made up of purple, pink and coral shades, you can spot my lips a mile away and I love it! If you are planning a last-minute beach getaway or you’re in the city looking to soak up the last rays of sun-  this bright hue should be your warm weather go-to lippy. I know, I know…bold lips can be a tad risky in the heat as heavier colours often bleed or smudge, however I believe the first beauty rule is there are no rules. If the sun is shining and you want to pair your summer prints with an intense lip colour- go for it like I did!

On Spring/Summer 2017 catwalks of designers like Mary Katrantzou and Jason Wu, we saw models floating down the runway pouting their fluoro-bright lips and with ARTDECO’s, Trouble in Paradise, for 14.95- you too can be part of electric bright brigade.

If you’re like me and you live somewhere where the likelihood of seeing/feeling the sun is about as high as an actual decent first date (!!) then you’ll want to look as fun, playful and colourful as can be during the last days of summer with this bright coral lipstick.

Trouble in Paradise Rocks because-

  • It has a colour and finish that has an instant skin-brightening effect
  • It’s happy and bright hue is an undeniable mood lifter
  • The vibrant coral colour electrifies dark or olive skin and if you have a golden tan, this is the perfect summer lipstick to show it off with!

Beauty Tip- Clash this coral lip shade with eye-catching hues like cobalt blue, mint green and colourful prints.

Summer lipstick for the evening- ‘Violet Vibes’ ombre lipstick

If you are not ready to take the plunge by wearing neon-inspired lipstick, Violet Vibes’ lavendar, violet and plum shades will give you just the right touch of subtle drama.

We often see violet lipsticks trending from the beginning of autumn and as the colder months settle in, this hue goes from violet to full-out deep plum. That being said, we are beginning to see more violet shades during the summer months. During Spring/Summer 2017 fashion week, DKNY and Maison Margiela let their vamp flags fly high by applying intense plum shades on the lips on their models. If you prefer a lighter shade of purple, then Violet Vibes give a great compromise as you can alternate between the 3 shades of purple in the lipstick.

Violet Vibes Perks-

  • It adds a sexy edge to an all black outfit or pretty summer dress
  • The show-stopping shade can be worn from summer well into autumn and winter- BARGAIN!
  • Violet purple is a flattering shade on dark, olive or honey-tanned skin

Admittedly, I’m a newbie in the lipstick game, for most of my adult years I’ve thought that lipsticks were the enemy because I found them difficult to apply and was quite frankly scared stiff of having that feathered, ‘half lipstick on, half lipstick off’ look. However, I was pleasantly surprised with ARTDECO’s lipsticks because not only was the creamy texture packed with nourishing ingredients like Argan oil and Lychee extracts to prevent my lips from drying out; the lipsticks had staying power and a yummy vanilla smell.

For most of the summer, I’ve worn a more burgundy red lipstick shade and I really had fun experimenting with these two bold lip colours. Which is your favourite of the two summer lip colours? Also, what was your favourite lipstick this summer?
