How to Update the Floral Print Trend
‘Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years…’, LL Cool J really couldn’t have put those lyrics any better to capture my ‘return’.
Hello everyone, it’s been a minute! I had to step away from the blogosphere to give another project I was working on my undivided attention, but now here I am like a good ol’ prodigal daughter. I’ve been keeping up with most of you via Instagram and I’m so inspired by how you’ve been putting your personal stamp on the summer trends. Speaking of which, what is your take on the floral print trend? During summer, floral prints are a staple given, however if you wish to steer away from the ‘predictably pretty’ look and prefer your floral print served with a delicious side order of sass, read on…
Today, I chose to pair my petal-strewn blouse with a high waist leather vintage skirt- both from Made in Berlin (Vintage store). It’s not often I wear one label from head to toe but when the pieces looks this good, I don’t try to fight it-ha ha! If you follow my blog you’ll know I’m cuckoo for leather and I adore the retro appeal of this skirt, the workmanship is truly exquisite.
If you are looking for new ways to wear the floral print trend without getting that ‘Here we go, again‘ feeling, try these tips on for size-
3 Ways To Update Your Florals
Shop your floral prints in a vintage store or a shop that hosts independent/up-and-coming designers.
Even though the high street has come a long way in the last decade, I tend to find more unique versions of trends in vintage stores. For those of you who aren’t so keen on thrifting, try independent or emerging designers.
Give a nod to other cultures via your accessories.
Florals are so versatile n’est-ce pas? With their romantic appeal, it’s no wonder they remain a go-to for female wedding guests. Pair a sweet n safe bloom-splattered dress with pearl studs and oh my, you are quite the English Rose. But what if you’ve had the summer hit song- Despacito- on repeat and you want to make like a senorita? Well, you can always follow my lead and do J Lo proud with these gold statement Fulani-inspired earrings.
Add an edge to your florals with leather.
When it comes to leather, there are several ways to pair it with your florals to bring down the saccharine factor and up your fashion-forward game. Leather biker boots, a bomber leather jacket and lashings of leather accessories all do the trick.
I opted for my new high waist leather skirt because of its flattering 50s silhouette- the high waist snatches me in for the gods and then blossoms into a full skirt for major twirl appeal.
Although this is a summer post, these tips can be followed to update your florals all through the year, so which tip do you think you’ll be trying?
I’d like to give special thanks to my good friend Caroline, who was my photographer for the day. We did these shots in no time at all and considering she’s 22 and not a professional photographer, I was pretty impressed. Samantha (from SATC, hellloooo…) got it in one when she told Charlotte to be ‘…damn sure before you get off the Ferris wheel because the women waiting to get on are 22, perky and ruthless!’
Wishing you all a good week ahead!
