Style Tips On How To Wear Yellow
Yes, yes, this summer I’ve been Team #AllBlackEverything but I do love me some colour! One of the reasons fashion is so goddamn awesome is you can go from sartorial extreme to the other, so let me take you from mysterious black to one of my favourite and vibrant colours: yellow.
A lot of people shy away from yellow because it’s a bold colour and if you are not familiar with mixing hues together, it can be tricky to find other colours that work well with it. Continue Reading to discover my style tips on how to wear yellow.
Style Tips
- First things first, know what sort of yellow compliments your skin tone. I think yellow is fabulous because it comes in so many statement shades: canary, golden, mustard, pineapple, banana, corn, dijon… I would advise light-skinned women to opt for the more warmer tones of yellow like mustard. For medium to dark-skinned ladies, I’d say you can wear both light and dark shades of yellow. And don’t forget neon yellow on dark skin tones packs a visual punch!
- Not ready for yellow clothes? Try yellow accessories instead. Yellow shoes, bags, jewellery…the options are endless. Pairing your clothes with yellow accents gives your ensemble a visual uplift. I’m especially partial to a bright canary yellow pair of shoes. Also don’t forget that although nail polish is not an accessory, showstopping yellow nail art is also a great way to breathe some zesty life into an otherwise sombre outfit.
- Have fun experimenting pairing yellow with other hues. The cool thing about yellow is you can mix it with colours that suit your personality. So if you love bold colour, blend it with primary colours like red and blue. If you like showing off your romantic side with fashion, soft butter yellow mixed with pastel colours like bubblegum pink and picturesque lavender will do the trick. For a more mature look, mustard and dark yellows worn with nudes will set you on the right sophisticated path.
Before I depart, I’ve to let you know that I got this vintage yellow dress in a fab shop in Berlin for a smacking 10 euros, yup that’s right 10 euros! Also, my white cat eye sun glasses are from a sunnies store in Lagos that I’m obsessssssed with: DAP MOD. I’m slowly but surely building up my sunglasses collection with their assorted eye candy gems!
