Short Hairstyles- How I Create my ‘frohawk

  1. In my opinion, although this look is pretty quick and simple to do, what is important and takes the most amount of time is getting your hair in the right condition before you start styling it. I like to create defined curls and moisturizer my hair before I attempt to style it. Read this post to see the products and technique I apply to soften my hair and define my curls.
  2. The thicker your hair appears with this look, the better your ‘frohawk will look, so I use the 3 picks on my comb below to separate my curls. Note that I do not use an Afro comb as in my opinion, they stretch out my curls too much.

3. As you can see to create a good ‘frohawk, it’s all about how the sides of your hair looks. Some choose to shave it, others slick it into position…I choose to use combs but it’s very important that you choose the right combs. I’ve had real trial and error when it comes to side combs for my hair. If they are to heavy, they will pull at your hairline (NooooOOooOO!!!), if they are too small, they do nothing. I managed to find black ones that curve perfectly so that when I slide them into the sides of my head, they make the desired ‘frohawk shape for me. I don’t remember where I bought mine, sorry, so I suggest trial and error. My advice is ensure the comb is light, curved and long enough.

4. Be prepared to use your fingers to play with your hair to create the ‘frohawk shape you want which can involve, using your fingers to push the top of your ‘frohawk forward or to comb your hairs at the nape of your neck.
