Photo Text – Caption This!
If you Follow my blog then you know the name of this game. But on a side note, how many of you on Instagram struggle with finding appropriate captions for your pictures? The Instagram market is so saturated that it can sometimes feel that what you want to say has already been said. A million times over. I once worked in a company where I was told by my boss that when it comes to social media, people are only interested in the pictures and not the text accompanying it. Before I set the creative wheels in your head turning, I want to share the winner of my last ‘Caption This’ post. Remember it was this image-

Now, Caption This…
This picture was styled by me as part of an editorial for a London-based magazine called Colures. It brings back bittersweet memories. The good is that it reminds me of a time when the fashion stylist industry was not so saturated and as a beginner, I could pull iconic labels like DVF- DVF is and will always be one of my favourite designers. When I styled this fashion shoot, I had mainly done tests but based on the strength of that, I was able to convince top PR agencies to lend me their best designers. Now, with everyone and their Mama having ‘Stylist’ emblazoned on their Instagram Bio, I doubt I could be so lucky if I was starting of as a fashion stylist today.
The image also takes me back to a time when I was super active in using my fashion editorials to make African-inspired and African fashion global. The jacket the model is wearing is by DVF and Guuurl, you can’t tell me that Mami wasn’t inspired by one of her many trips to Africa when she designed this jacket.
My not-so-good styling memories involve working damn hard to pull this shoot together, managing all the creatives involved in the shoot and not getting paid.
