Get Into These Spring 2020 Fashion Trends
In this article, my gurl – Lea – and I serve ‘spring 2020 fashion trend realness’. If you are looking for spring fashion inspiration, continue reading…
Spring brings with it an influx of new fashion options. Sombre colours are traded in for cheerier tones and heavier fabrics like wool and tweed are exchanged for lighter textures – chiffon, silk and the like.
This spring/summer 2020 season, the catwalk did not disappoint when it came to dishing out an assortment of spring-inspired looks. We had a multitude of prints to oogle at – polka dot, graphic, floral et al. As usual, fashion paid tribute to decades gone by, so we saw strong 60s and 70s references. And as can be expected, the catwalk was awash with every eye-catching colour of the rainbow.
Now, what makes a trend after a catwalk season has gone by? A catwalk look is considered a fashion trend when multiple designers adopt similar styles globally – okur?! These are the looks that fashion journalists are willing to bet will trickle down from the catwalk to the influencer and then hit the streets.

Neon-Highlighter Colour Trend

This spring season, your wardrobe better have some pieces that match the bright colours of your favourite highlighter. Why? Because Tom Ford, Valentino and Christopher Kane’s catwalks said so. These high-fashion designers created spring 2020 pieces that were rich in vibrant shades.

There are many ways to rock this ‘in yer face’ trend. My gurl, Lea, chose to go down the colour blocking route and rock hot neon pink from head to toe. Actually she’s serving 3 trends – Neon Brights, colour blocking and 80s pizzazz.
What I love about this look is, let’s say you wore it for a long night out – for the earlier part of the evening when you are having drinks with friends or in a bar, the oversized blazer will give your overall ensemble a chic finish. And then when it’s time to hit the club, you can shrug off the blazer and cut loose on the dance floor in the red swimsuit (worn as top) and skirt underneath.
I’m wearing a striking green dress that’s not for the wallflower. This is a colour that when it enters the room, says, ‘Hi, how ya doin’?’ before you do.
One way to wear bold colours is to offset the hue with a non-colour like black. This is what I’ve done with this look by pairing it with black tights and shoes.
To complete my look, I chose statement gold accessories.
Lingerie as Outerwear Trend
If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you’ll know I’ve dabbled with this revealing trend before. I believe some lingerie is just too gorgeous (and damn expensive!) not to show to the whole wide world. The lingerie-inspired trend is also no newbie to the catwalk. Season after season, we see designers weave lingerie details into their collections in the shape of slips, bras et al and this spring 2020 was no different.
Between Mugler, Loewe and Olivier Theyskens, we saw eye-catching bras paired with high waisted skirts, sultry satin slips and midriffs adorned with garters.

Lea and I interpreted this trend in different ways. She styled her lace white body with a silk champagne blouse, white flares and gold platforms. And in doing so served 2 trends. Her white lace body ticks the box for the Lingerie Outerwear trend, whilst her gold platforms and white flared trousers are very much a nod to the 70s.
I showcased my black harness-style bra through a transparent top and a high-waist silver metallic skirt. With my look, I played with textures, ya know, the whole hard and soft thing. My embellished ‘n’ buckled boots, harness skirt-belt emanate rock ‘n’roll/BDSM vibes, whilst my peekaboo top alludes that I have a softer, more romantic temperament.
70s Chaka Khan herself would be proud because like her, “I’m every woman, it’s all in me. Anything you want done baby, I do it naturally” – punctuate line with sassy finger snap.
Which spring 2020 fashion trends do you want to seek your teeth into?
Over to you folks – what spring fashion trends have you shook? There are so many more looks to add to this list – colourful leather, pinstripe tailoring, 60s hippy vibes… but Rome wasn’t built in a day, and I couldn’t cover them all ( ;
Also which is your favourite runway to real-life look of Lea’s and I – Highlighter Brights or Lingerie Outerwear?
