Spring/Summer '12 Trends at Berlin Fashion Week
By now every fashion platform from print, digital to beyond, has given a detailed report on what the S/S ’12 trends are. However not every trend prophecy translates into the public’s wardrobes, so last week I went to Berlin Fashion Week to see which of the trends made the cut.
I have to say that I had so much fun doing this, so much so that I didn’t actually make the show I was supposed to see in the end. For me, the real entertainment was seeing and meeting these stylish individuals. I found them inspirational, take a look for yourselves-
Prints
This was the most popular trend of all, so much so, that it can be divided into-
Head to Toe Clashing Print, Carrie-Bradshaw Style
Matthew Williamson, Emilio Pucci and Mary Katrantzou are just a hand pick of the many designers who threw caution to the wind and experimented with going ‘all the way’ with their choice of prints. I love how this lady carried of this trend, how Carrie Bradshaw is she?
Paisley Print
The Perennial Floral Print
I told this lady that she reminded me of the Aerosmith 90s videos. She was not familiar with them which is a shame. Everyone should watch Aerosmith’s Cryin’ video at least once, if only to see Alicia Silverstone’s mesmerizing performance a well as her outfits–
Mish Mash Prints
Geometric Stripes
These ladies were clearly influenced by Derek Lam, who showed a strong liking for strong stripes in eye-catching colours–
Some preferred starker, horizontal stripes–
Leather
Leather, in summer? I hear you say. Well, judging from the wet looks that slid down the catwalk from designers like Chanel, Valentino, Maison Martin Margiela and Balmain; the answer is very much in the affirmative–
Speaking of the Fetish trend, these shoes could do some damage-
Minamilism
This lady chose to give a nod to Celine, DVF and Stella McCartney by choosing crisp and cool, clinical separates–
While this lady injected some non-colour to her ensemble-
Short Shorts
Now although Balmain, Balenciage and Dolce and Gabbana sent their models stalking down the catwalk in shorts that just about covered their pert derrieres, this trend comes with a weight limit. But if you’ve got it, flaunt it-
Vintage Drama
These ladies oozed retro glamour–
And here are some random sightings that caught my eye-
Sorbet-coloured sandals, oh my-
And what did I wear? I chose to go down the Bold Brights route courtesy of designers like Roksanda Ilnicic and Micahel Kors.
I adore this coral-red dress I got from Portobello Market, London and each time I wear it I feel very La Isla Bonita/Madonna.
How cute is this Froggy ring, it always makes me smile-
Which is your favourite look people? And which of these trends do you think you will be wearing this Summer?
